We still have something called ‘Separation of Church and State.’

Anti-God is not Anti-American. Thus, your whole argument falls apart!

  2. Bill Vincent Says:

It’s this kind of hate-mongering, anti-social, blind way of thinking that tearing the country in two. It’s all about respecting other’s beliefs. I respect Rev Briggs’ beliefs, but he obviously doesn’t respect anyone else’s beliefs unless they agree with him.

  3. Hannah Willis aka the Leader of the Lunatic Atheists Says:

    Well since you told me….

  4. Bob who doesn't suggest things but Says:

You know…we have this guys address…

  5. dao Says:

i call slippery slope fallacy on traitors -> civil war.

  6. jameso0 Says:

they should get this written into the next patriot act

  7. Walter Haxton Says:

This is hate speech. This kind of thing is forcing more and more Atheists in to the political arena. While as an atheist I do not try to force other peoples Ideas this kind of evil must be fought. Eventually we are going to have to make our government enforce the Constitution. There is no place in the constitution that labels a persons beliefs as treason. Treason requires action and witnesses. This person can go around declaring people traitors all he likes. Unless he really wants to get into a war that he will loose he should present his witnesses in a court of law. If he doesn’t do that he should be sued for defamation of character and making threats of violence.

  8. Mitch Says:

Wow, I’m glad he let us know about this. I would have gone on not believing in God and it would have brought us to civil war!

We should send him an award! Get Theodore Kaczynski on that right away!

  9. michaelpain Says:

If God and Jesus were so important to the founding of our country why were they left out of the Constitution?

  10. Shadus Says:

The founding fathers didn’t entirely consist of any one faith– there were agnostics/atheists(deitist), christians, catholics, and many other faiths. They wanted equality for all religions and didn’t want a state religion like existed in the england and various countries in Europe. It’s a pity the current fundamentalist crowd is batsh!t insane and actively trying to undermine the constitution and the religious rights of everyone so they don’t have to be exposed to other religions.

  11. Larry the liberal Says:

In general atheists seem to be smarter than Christian hypocrites, but not all that much smarter. If you just like arguing, continue to attack Christian hypocrites, but it you want to make the situation better, change tactics.
Instead of attacking them, encourage them to be better Christians. The Amish try very hard to be faithful to the bible, they seem to be much less hypocritical than the average Christian and I don’t think they are any problem for America or atheists.
Become very familiar with Matthew chapter five. Try to live up to the ideas there and then you can challenge Christians on those commands from their savior.
In Matthew chapter 5 verses 39 – 42 there are 4 commands for very liberal behavior:
Verse 39 says to turn the other cheek.
Verse 40 says if someone takes your coat, give him your cloke also
Verse 41 says if someone compels you to go with him a mile, go with him two.
Verse 42 says don’t refuse someone that wants to borrow from you.

But the best is the last 6 verses (43-48) of the chapter. Jesus commands that we “love our enemies” and then he repeats it in several different contexts to make absolutely sure that the command is understood. If Christians were following just this one command there is no way they could be the source of all the hate and destruction that they are today.

Don’t forget the golden rule in Matthew 7:12. Also don’t forget the bible’s many warnings against wealth. Failing to be in favor of a strongly progressive tax structure proves the Republicans cannot be the party of God.

Stop fighting the hypocrites and begin encouraging them to be better Christians.
Make sure America knows that Christ was a liberal. Leave (so-called) Christians the choice of keeping their religion and becoming liberals, or quietly letting go of their religion and thus having no authority behind their ignorant and hateful opinions. Properly dealt with, the problem of Christian hate and hypocrisy would subside over the next few years, the hypocrites would cease to be a problem and have no idea how their movement dissipated. Remember these not-so-bright Christians are unaware that they were manipulated into their militant attitude by Republican politicians and others, be kind to them and simply remove the ability of Republicans to exploit them. When America realizes that Democratic ideals are closer to the message of the gospel than Republican ideals are, the Republican religious manipulation will end, and politics can go back to being about politics.

For hate is not conquered by hate: hate is conquered by love. This is an eternal law. - Pali Tripitaka Budhist sacred texts

Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.
    Martin Luther King, Jr.

People like Briggs do not need to be dealt with directly, a proper strategy will leave people like him marginalized and without an audience. When Republicans cannot exploit religion, the hateful hypocrites will lose their political power. With no political power, people like Briggs will hardly be noticed.

  12. Jeremy Says:

Being an atheist is not lunacy, believing in an invisible father figure in the sky, who controls everything, yet makes it blatant that he doesn’t care about anything, that is what constitutes a lunatic.
Although it I can see why a person would hold dear to a religion that there parents forced them into, or found on there own
Let us have our beliefs, we will let you have yours, no harm no foul.
Its funny I haven’t ever met an atheist that publicly attacked anyone for there beliefs, unless it was someone who attacked them first.
And not to mention “God” said to not judge anyone, or anything, and that he would be the judge at the end.
If that isn’t a judgmental statement I have never heard one, who is the “sinner” now?

  13. Sheridan Burdick Says:

I’m an agnostic, but it’s statements and beliefs JUST LIKE THIS and the inability of people JUST LIKE THISthat tend to drive me further and further AWAY from trying to believe in finding a “loving deity”. THIS guy is the true war-mongerer. I can accept ANYONE, and THEIR beliefs and thoughts, only BECAUSE I don’t just follow BLINDLY the writings in a book of MORTAL men, written thousnds of years ago. I have NO NEED for people such as this. And as far as being a TRAITOR??? May YOU burn in hell for that statement sir. I attempted to serve in the army as a career nurse after completing college. I was devastated!! I wnated to go right into the thick of things of Viet Nam. To call me a traitor–YOU aree a BASTARD!!

  14. Michael Says:

I wonder what his congregation thinks about his spending their donations on such a message?

  15. Michael Says:

    http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=3755

Then again, it’s an old message.

  16. Ghastly Actions Says:

I completely disagree with what he says. Posting that billboard on the internet, or writing him or paying any attention to him at all is giving him what he wants, however, and in the end he’s really winning.

  17. jesus h. strickland Says:

why go after the athiests? shouldn’t he be busy hating abortionists, homos, stem-cell research, and the democrats?

  18. rest of the world Says:

Americans, please understand that the rest of the world is VERY worried about your extremist religious fanatics. These closed minded zealots are seen as uneducated, uncompromising, and very unworldly.
Read your constitution and re-separate church and state before you start world war 3 and ruin it for all of us.

  19. jorx Says:

This is so ridiculous! That’s one of the reasons why it’s said that Europe and America are drifting apart. It’s a shame. I’m glad there is no such “movement” in Europe (and there won’t be!).

  20. ryan Says:

at least spell “atheist” correctly. sheesh.

  21. nynerd Says:

haha, thanks for pointing that out, too late to change it though.

  22. anja Says:

And God said “lets start a war” and all religious people start to kill everyone.
When you are religious you can kill! It is forgiven.
So that is why I do not beleive in Gods!

  23. Mike Says:

Well, let’s try to keep at least THIS little war civil. We can save the massacre & bloodshed for the hate-mongering crusaders. Jesus would want it so. I also think he’d want a turkey sandwich. He should keep his strength up for that second coming thing.

  24. Sarah Kehoe Says:

    Haha, that’s funny. Silly peoples…

  25. Jyle Dupuis Says:

I feel dumber having read that.

  26. Steve Says:

Well, I’m not really anti-god, more like god seems irrelevant. Is that the same thing? Anyhow, it’s a good thing I found this billboard, now I understand how much trouble I cause by not going to church. Seriously, I’ll be changing my ways. I mean, who wants to be responsible for civil war?

  27. Joanne in Canada Says:

This entire littagy gave me a very good laugh: and that is saying something… I especially enjoyed the one talking about the book of Matthew and strategies to take away the power of such hate-mongers in a peaceful an loving way. and all of the athiest, agnostic, ambivalent about religious remarks are just absolutely classic, and wonderful. How is that for a string of judgements, folks? Thank you, for this has been truly inspiring.

  28. Joanne in Canada Says:

I just re-read the billboard: and as far as I can see, only “Lunatic Athiests” who have lawyers have to worry about this anyway.
most of the atheists (actually all) who replied to this post show no signs of lunacy to me.
And, for all of the above posted comments’ reasons: the author of the billboard is surely showing us how true the statement is

  29. Joanne in Canada Says:

that for every finger you point at someone else, there are at least 3 fingers pointing straight at you. the truly anti-god entity here is the perpetrator of the billboard… and I hope that his constiuents.. er congregation take offence at seeing their hard earned donations used to perpetrate such an anti-christian message.

  30. Scott Lewis Says:

I thought my domestic terrorist credentials were rock-solid, given that I cannot claim allegiance to any of the invisible cloud beings. Now I find out that all the cool A-theists keep attorneys on retainer.
    I am humbled and ashamed.
If I sink any lower I might start going to church.

Plus, I’m sure it’s my fault that our God-king president started a civil war in Iraq. If I pray to G. Bush could that stave off a civil war in Iran? Can He tell if I’m lying?

    Scott Lewis

  31. Nivekian Says:

    Hooray for civil war!!
It’s about freakin’ time we took over this “run aground” government.
Down with God, Down with Amerikkka, UP with FREEDOM

  32. Bdox Says:

If Briggs the bigot would remove his head from his dark place he would learn that “lunatic” more commonly applies to hate groups like his than to atheists. He also makes the mistaken assumption that being an atheist implies being anti-god. Just because a person is not afflicted by supersticious beliefs does not equate being ANTI* anything.

  33. a european Says:

well, as long as you americans lead civil war, maybe the rest of us can finally live in peace without constantly being bullied or patronized by the USof A. hehehe… no, but seriously… read Richard Dawkins Book: “the god dilusion”. this country (USA) scares the shit out of me… uahhhh!!!! :)

  34. Aaron Says:

Writing this guy a whole bunch of letters won’t do much…he died last year. If there is a hell I hope he’s burning in it now.

  35. Dave Says:

I’m mostly just impressed that some poor mentally diminished person was able to put that many words together and then put it up on a billboard, regardless of whether or not it’s gibberish! Way to go! Maybe the diapers will be exchanged for big-boy pants next!

  36. Rutchy Says:

First, they came for the communists.
Next, they came for the Islamofascists.
Today, they’re coming for the atheists.
    Next…?

  37. Jon Says:

“Silly Christians! Myths are for kids”
All religion is dangerous. Athiest/Agnostic people are the most “moral” in actual deed. I as an Agnostic, gain my morality on a one on one basis. Here and now.
You are another human being. I should do the right thing on that fact alone. Not some mythical old guy in the sky.
Geez it’s like a child who refuses to accept the tooth fairy was mum or dad!
    Made up! Invented!

  38. Tom Says:

As a Christian it is very upsetting to be reminded of the manipulation and hijacking of Christianity by the west ever since Constantine opened up the doors to floods of western traditionalists; forever tarnishing Jesus’s name.
“Watch out for teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces, and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. They devour widows houses and for show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.” - Mark 12:38 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of Heaven in men’s faces . You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let thoses enter who are trying to. - Mark23:13

  39. rich Says:

You say “civil war” like its a bad thing. Arent(sp?) we spending billions funding one overseas right now?

  40. tez0r Says:

haha americans, the majority too dumb to see what a ludicrous farce christianity.

  41. Daniel Says:

Yes! George Washington was Christain and so was every singe American president! Our laws are based off the Ten Commandments! Ant-God is Anti-AAmerican!

  42. lewie miya Says:

I hope the predicted american civil war won’t cross the border into Canada.
But if we get involved and I am drafted I will shoot into the ground because one of the commandments sez “thou shalt not kill”…no ifs, buts or whatever….a straightforward no questions asked order by our loving gawd.
Anyone who shoots and kills anybody even in self-defence will go to hell for sure.
I want to be sure i get to heaven and rest on the white fluffy clouds listening to the angels play their harps 8 to the bar.

  43. JM Says:

    Define “God.”

  44. Cyanide Says:

Ha. That’s funny. I was always taught that it was racism, not religion, that brought on the civil war. That, and the fact that the North and South just don’t get along.

  45. Common sense. Says:

Funny, by the looks of it, god is the one starting all the wars. Maybe not always the Christian god, but it is always someones god starting trouble. Keep your deities in check people. So far, the number one cause of death in the world is god. And I think Voltaire said it best, “People will continue to commit atrocities as long as they believe in absurdities.”

  46. ben Says:

jefferson said that this country needs a revolution every twenty years, so yeah i guess treason is anti amarican, all of the founding fathers and those brave enough to fight against tyranny were traitors

  47. Fenrik Says:

I hope some smart neurologists are working on a cure for religious delusion.
