Wow, I’m surprised how many people have commented positively about this post. These are all terrible photos. A dog in a lifesaver is not beautiful. Do better next time.

No it isn’t. What the hell are you talking about, how is assembling a gallery of animal pictures on the internet (HOLY CRAP THAT’S A KILLER NEW IDEA BY THE WAY) in any way wonderful? There’s nothing wondrous about it.

Manipulating animals to have them pose in unnatural situations that we humans find amusing or touching, is both wrong and phony. It would be similar to taking a picture of a goldfish in a toilet bowl- haha, funny, a goldfish presented as a turd”- and then have Mr. Critical Photographer say:”Oh well, as long as nobody flushes it, it’s OK, I can tell by its eyes!”

This said, I hope to God that Jeff will never post any of his pictures, because I wouldn’t know how to handle “the release of emotions without being aware of it myself”, unless it is a picture of him stepping on an IED.

back to the puppies on the clothesline…
they look fine. i love animals, including puppies, and i enjoyed the picture. i found nothing “selfish”, “mentally-disturbed” or “out of synch” about it. it’s an interesting image & my hat’s off to the photographer for the idea!
now, had the puppies been hanging from their ears or limbs, THAT would be cruel — the doings of an extremely uncaring & disturbed person! but they weren’t. instead, they all appear comfortably perched in hammock-like garments. what’s wrong with that?
as a critical photographer myself, i am guessing that what some people may actually be reacting to (negatively) is the dark exposure & poor quality of the print, making the eyes all look dark & a bit lifeless. i think this causes some to assume that the pups are uncomfortable or in pain, etc, but they clearly are not.
in any case, to me, this demonstrates that the “tone” of a picture can release certain emotions in the viewer, without the viewer even being aware of it.

I love them so much! My brother likes pictures of buildings better than of nature. but my favorite one was the polar bears snuggling together. So cute. one time I put a picture of dolphins on the computer and mt brother put a picture of the Eiffel Tower.
