05 Sep 06 RIP Steve Irwin
It was very sad to learn just now that Steve Irwin, AKA The Crocodile Hunter, has been killed. He was filming at The Great Barrier Reef and he and his camera man got too close to a stingray, putting it into defensive mode. The stingray attacked and hit Steve right in the chest. He pulled the barb out himself and then died very quickly. It is apparently extremely uncommon for a stingray to kill a man, more often it is just a painful sting, but apparently the location of where he got hit made the difference… only 17 people on record have died of stingray related injury.
We will miss Steve Irwin a great deal, his spirit was unrivaled, his zest for life contagious, his love of nature beautiful… and our condolences to his wife, Terri. This is very sad news indeed.
