A very interesting piece in the New York Times regarding how bicycling is a sport well suited to heavy ordinary people. Bicycling is much easier on the body and the center of gravity is not as important as in running because it’s the equivelent of a pogo stick versus rolling on wheels. Check it out
When you run, you spent more energy and thus get slimmer faster. Cycling is easier (if you can bike well), but not necessarily the best way to lose weight or enjoy the weather.
For example, when you cross a puddle on bicycle and get splashed, you get upset and go “I’ll never bike in the rain” (some may enjoy the process too, though). If you run and step on the puddle, you tend to ignore it or learn to avoid them by over-stepping them (its easy on the run). You can even have fun jumping over huge puddles, too.
Bicycling might be good for you but if you share the road with cars your chances of getting hit by one are large . Which is why I prefer to row,
preferably on a lake with only kayaks or other rowers
