12 Jun 06 We could have killed Zarqawi sooner but…

According to this article from MSNBC, we had accurate intel in 2003 that Zarqawi was running a weapons lab in Northern Iraq, that was connected to the London ricin arrests, and we could have taken him out right then and there. But we let him live, so that he could be a formidable celebrity foe that we can use to champion the war with. Well, now I think in retrospect it would have made much more sense to take him out in 2003, his little cell is now basically half of Iraq and there is no victory in our sites. The war was supposed to be all about preemptively taking out terrorists, not letting them grow in strength to the point where it justifies us staying in the country forever to “protect” the oil.
